Evoked Potentials
Evoked potentials are neurological investigations that assess how the nervous system responds to various stimuli. At CardioPrima, we perform:
- Auditory evoked potentials — to evaluate the response of auditory neural pathways to sound stimuli;
- Visual evoked potentials — to assess the response of the optic nerve and visual pathways to light stimuli.
Recommendations before the investigation
- Wash your hair before the appointment; hair should be clean and dry, without gel, hairspray, or oils.
- Have a good night’s rest before the test — sleep deprivation may affect the results.
- Wear comfortable clothing and avoid large or metal accessories around the head area.
- Bring with you:
- a complete list of current medications,
- recent neurological investigations (EEG, imaging studies, audiograms, ophthalmologic reports, if available),
- the referral from your treating physician.
- For visual evoked potentials, if you wear glasses or contact lenses, bring them with you.
- For auditory evoked potentials, ensure earwax is removed if necessary.
What happens during the investigation
- Electrodes are placed on the scalp to record brain responses to stimuli.
- For visual evoked potentials, you will watch light patterns on a screen.
- For auditory evoked potentials, you will hear sounds or clicks through special headphones.
- The procedure is painless and involves no risks.
After the investigation
- You may immediately resume your daily activities.
- The results will be interpreted by a neurologist, who will provide conclusions and recommendations.
