Holter ECG Monitoring

Holter ECG monitoring involves continuous recording of the heart’s electrical activity for a period ranging from 24 hours up to 7 days (at CardioPrima, devices with 7 or 12 leads are used). This investigation allows detection of heart rhythm disturbances that may not appear on a standard resting ECG.

Recommendations before device placement

  • Take a shower before your appointment, as during monitoring you will not be able to wet the chest area or take a bath/shower.
  • Do not apply creams or lotions to the chest to ensure proper electrode adhesion.
  • Men are advised to remove chest hair in the areas where electrodes will be placed.
  • Wear comfortable clothing, preferably a cotton T-shirt or undershirt (avoid synthetic fabrics or wool) to ensure comfort and prevent skin irritation.
  • Inform the doctor about all medications you are currently taking.
  • Bring a recent ECG (within the last month) and, if applicable, a referral from your attending physician.

During monitoring

  • The device must be worn continuously, including during sleep.
  • Avoid activities that could wet or damage the device (showering, swimming).
  • Record any symptoms you experience (palpitations, dizziness, chest pain) in the provided diary, noting the approximate time of occurrence—this is essential for accurate interpretation.
  • Continue your usual daily activities, including moderate physical effort, unless otherwise advised by your doctor. The goal is to assess heart rhythm during normal daily life.

After completion of the investigation

  • The device and electrodes will be removed at the clinic.
  • The recorded data will be analyzed by a cardiologist, and you will receive a medical report along with appropriate recommendations.
