Video EEG Monitoring
Video EEG monitoring (electroencephalography with synchronized video recording) is an investigation that records the brain’s electrical activity correlated with clinical manifestations, allowing detection and characterization of neurological disorders (including epilepsy). At CardioPrima, we offer:
- a standard 20-minute protocol;
- prolonged monitoring from 1 hour up to 24 hours;
- overnight recordings (starting at 8:00 PM) lasting 4, 10, or 12 hours.
Recommendations before the investigation
- Wash your hair on the morning of the test; hair should be clean and dry, without gel, hairspray, or oils.
- Wear comfortable clothing, preferably cotton. Avoid tight clothes or large metal accessories.
- Take prescribed medications as instructed by your physician, unless advised otherwise.
- Bring with you:
- a complete list of current medications;
- recent neurological investigations (EEG, MRI, CT, if available);
- a referral from your treating physician.
- For overnight studies, bring personal items for comfort (pillow, light blanket, change of clothes).
- Avoid coffee, black tea, energy drinks, and alcohol for at least 12 hours before the test.
During monitoring
- Electrodes will be applied to the scalp using a special paste or gel.
- Continuous video surveillance is performed to correlate brain activity with clinical events.
- During prolonged or overnight monitoring, you are encouraged to maintain usual activities (reading, watching TV, sleeping).
After the investigation
- The paste used to fix the electrodes can be easily washed out at home.
- Results are analyzed by a neurologist and communicated to the patient along with appropriate recommendations.
