Graded Exercise Test
The graded exercise test (also known as an exercise tolerance test) is a cardiological investigation that evaluates how the heart responds to physical stress. At CardioPrima, the test is performed on a cycle ergometer (medical bicycle) with continuous monitoring of heart rhythm, blood pressure, and electrocardiogram (ECG).
To obtain accurate results, it is important to follow several recommendations.
Recommendations before the test
- Do not consume coffee, black tea, energy drinks, or alcohol within the last 12 hours.
- Avoid heavy meals at least 3 hours before the test; a light snack is allowed.
- Wear comfortable clothing and sports footwear (sneakers).
- Do not smoke in the hours preceding the test.
- Continue your medication as prescribed by your doctor. In some cases, certain medications (e.g., beta-blockers) may be temporarily stopped — this will be decided individually.
- Get adequate rest the day before the test to avoid results being influenced by excessive fatigue.
Required documents and information
- A complete list of current medications.
- An electrocardiogram and echocardiography performed within the last month.
- A referral or recommendation from the treating physician/cardiologist.
What happens during the test
- You will pedal on a cycle ergometer, with the workload gradually increasing under medical supervision.
- Throughout the test, ECG, blood pressure, and clinical condition are continuously monitored.
- The test is stopped once the required parameters are reached or if any discomfort occurs.
The total duration of the investigation is approximately 30–45 minutes.
